This knife owes its name to the blunt tip which is absolutely missing as if the blade had been cut off.
Pointless knives became much more widespread with the "Giolitti law" of 1908 which fixed the length of the blade of pointed knives at only four centimeters.
For mozzette, the limit rose to ten centimeters, offering the possibility of safely carrying a knife of sufficient size in your pocket without risking the rigors of the law.

The "Roman" testifies to the widespread mentality in the Papal States for which the knife was considered as a faithful friend to be constantly worn "in his pocket" and to be unleashed at the first hint of a fight or for an immediate response.

Many elements constituting the "Roman" bear witness to the offensive use that distinguished this knife: the sharp blade, the decorations of the lattice handle or fish bone that served to improve the grip, the locking system with fixed spring that prevented the knife could close up accidentally and that at the time of the opening emitted a dry noise that exalted the aggressive expression.

Giovanni Piscitelli, born in Frosolone (IS). The passion for collection and hunting knives I inherited from my father (master craftsman) from whom I also inherited the most sophisticated techniques. My knives are unique pieces, strictly handcrafted.

When producing a knife, there are many elements that make a difference. In addition to a difference in value in the choice of materials, it is the labor required to perform certain operations, closely connected to the construction complexity that makes the knife more valuable. The "Lurisinca," a traditional knife from Luras in Gallura, owes its name to the Lurese term for a local woman, reflecting the feminine nature of the "razor blade" used. The Gallurese Razor Blade, a typical Sardinian knife resembling a point-less shaving razor, was essential in cork processing, especially for making "quadretti," precursors to cork stoppers. However, this practice has declined due to the economic crisis, forcing many craftsmen to close their shops. The Gallurese Razor Blade, versatile and always at hand, represented an indispensable tool for every daily need.

In some areas of central and southern Italy, it was customary to give knives as engagement or wedding gifts, assigning the knife the task of sanctioning the love bond.

There was a strong identification between man and knife: the lover who gave such a gift to the woman symbolically offered himself, while the gift given to the man could be interpreted as an exhortation to virile valor.

Some specimens of this historical knife also served as protection against the evil eye, featuring the characteristic “dice eyes” on the handle, while the blades were traditionally engraved with decorative and symbolic elements.

The love knives were also indicative of the social class of the family: less wealthy couples, unable to afford very elaborate knives, sanctioned their love with simpler, less worked, and less expensive objects, but identical in values and meanings.

The brand Artigiano Scarperia was established in 2007 by two expert knife makers, Fabio Gasparrini and Alessandro Conti. Drawing inspiration from ancient art, they create refined cutlery for the kitchen and table, assortments of personal care items and office supplies, as well as various objects in horn and wood. All products are handcrafted, using traditional techniques without the use of machinery.

For this reason, any variations in material and workmanship are not considered flaws, but distinctive features of a unique product, handcrafted and of high quality.

This slender-shaped knife with a curved handle derives from ancient models used by the shepherds of Abruzzo. Its adoption in the repertoire of knives manufactured in Scarperia (where the particular crease of the handle earned it the name of "hunchback") dates back to the late nineteenth century and took place without flashy changes compared to the original type, equipped with a simple spring and one-piece bovine horn handle. This model is in horn tip.

The first certain information on this knife dates back to 1848. A specimen, dated 1871, is kept in the State Archives of Florence, attached to the documents of a trial against a convicted person. The mark of a Scarperia manufacturer, Gustavo Buffi, is clearly visible on it, the shape of the blade is that with an angled back, also maintained in the twentieth century and present in the catalogs of various firms in Scarperia. The Maremmano is a horn tip model.

Scimitar "or" French "blade already present in the early twentieth century, production continued until the mid-1950s. The great success of this model, which was born in Scarperia has had national diffusion, is due to the fact that although it is very light it is elegant, robust and has great cutting capacity, due to the guessed shape of the blade. It is characterized by the presence of a metal "button" on the heel and a clamp at the other end of the handle.

The "Neapolitan" old drives is a knife in horn tip elongated, suitable to cut the use of tip. It is not clear which of the knives of the traditional Neapolitan is inspired model of Scarperia. The general line is somewhat related to the "Maremma" in the form assumed in the Mugello, but with more slender proportions and read.

The most striking feature of this model is in the edge of the blade, a full right to the tip. The Casertano lent itself well to a variety of uses, thanks to the cutting edge straight that finishes in a very simply shaped handle. Traditional knife of Scarborough and is used in all of Tuscany to the first 800. He had an element of novelty, for its time: the metal frame inside the handle as well in traditional cattle.

Palmerino horn cattle PA2C20 two knives - knife

The production of Scarborough has not devoted much attention to penknives.
It was, however, made a template from the desk, which in the past was used to make the tip of the quill pens and pencils.
This sharpener Scarperia was always devoid of spring and could have from one to two blades; unmistakable the shape of the handle, in a single piece of horn.
In the catalogs of the early years of the twentieth century these items were listed as "sharpeners use Palmerini" which was actually the name of a renowned manufacturer of the nineteenth century.
Proposed model is at the tip of the horn two blades.

Antique knife initially in use in the Roman countryside, and then in Rome at the time of the papal city. Often, the rustic character of duels, it was designed primarily as a weapon. Traditional knife produced by master cutlers in Scarperia, place where, since 1300, the craftsmanship of Italian knives continues.
Typical Piedmont knife, in use since the early 19th century also in Liguria. Originally from the village of Vernante (Cuneo).

The 420 stainless steel blade can be scimitar or straight.
On the upper part of the heel there is always the characteristic appendix with the head of a nail which, by housing a socket in the handle, allows the blade to be held steady with the knifted thumb.
Used for all agricultural and domestic work and, for the particular sharpening, also for carving wood.
The cattlemen also used it as a surgical tool to carve the belly of cattle grazing, when too much wet grass was ingested causing excessive accumulation of gas.

This slender-shaped knife with a curved handle derives from ancient models, used by the shepherds of Abruzzo.

Le prime notizie certe su questo coltello risalgono al 1848. Un esemplare, datato 1871, è conservato nell'Archivio di Stato di Firenze, allegato agli atti di un processo a carico di un pregiudicato.
