The Amphibian is a true Marfione classic dating back over 20 years. It comes from a bygone era when Microtech knives could be both automatic and manual--in one. The VULPIS series was born out of the need to create a compact, versatile, multi-purpose knife with a modern design that perfectly matches historical products. The inspiration for the creation of this line starts from the DUCA, the name of the typical multi-purpose knife of the people of Maniago, a knife that originated in the second half of the 1800s in Maniago, when hunting knife sharpeners with different sized blades, ivory toothpicks and tweezers for removing thorns were made.

These knives were presented at the 1888 National Exposition in Turin by the Bet Giovanni company, which won a gold medal for the quality of its products. So it was that, most likely, Luigi Amedeo di Savoia, Duke of the Abruzzi, decided to visit one of the company's two stores in Turin, where he saw and ordered the four-bladed multi-purpose knife, which he chose as part of the equipment for the North Pole expedition he commanded in 1899.

Daughter of Zeus and Themis, Atropos was the oldest of the three goddesses of fate in Greek mythology and, by cutting the thread of life, decided the good and evil of every human being. Captivated by this fascinating unease, American knife designer Chuck Gedraitis breaks free from the clutches of fate with the Boker Plus Atropos and takes control of the threads once more.

The shape of the tactical knife is modeled on the legendary tactical knives of Rex Applegate and respects its DNA with every cut. Symmetry is one of its distinguishing features, which is reflected both in the single-edged VG-10 blade and the ergonomic light brown Micarta handle. Decorative elements such as the attractive ricasso on the spine of the blade, the discreet stonewash finish of the blade, the hinted guard element, or the elongated grooves in the handle scales are evidence of a well-thought-out tactical concept that has been implemented in the Atropos for EDC use.

Following the market novelties, which are always numerous, I thought of designing a folder that was very compact and that expressed solidity from the very first impact, once gripped. The salient features that had to be present were: an excellent grip, a prerogative I try to apply in all my designs, and a type of blade that was very usable even for heavy work, despite its small size.
