The company's roots date back to 1889, when enterprising brothers, William Russell (W.R.), Jean, John and Andrew, in the Case family began selling craft knives from the back of a van in northern New York. Le radici dell'azienda risalgono al 1889, quando dei fratelli intraprendenti, William Russell (W.R.), Jean, John e Andrew, nella famiglia Case iniziarono a vendere coltelli artigianali dal retro di un furgone nella parte settentrionale dello stato di New York. Nel gennaio 1900, i fratelli costituirono la Case Brothers Cutlery Company, fondando così il primo marchio di famiglia Case.

J.R. Case, che chiamò l'azienda con il nome del padre, W.R., costituì la W.R. Case & Sons nella forma in cui oggi è conosciuta. Eisenhower e la star della musica country, Randy Travis.
